Kia ZERO!, I’m Mariko — a permaculturalist sharing my journey of
“Playing, Living, Working and Learning” here in New Zealand!
We had a good small session today at Kai Hub.

Some of them had never been to Kai Hub before, so it was good for Kai Hub to have first-time visitors too.
I prepared some coffee and biscuits and tried to make the workshop comfortable, because I like that kind of thing at other people’s workshops. And a cute little baby came too! I like it when mums and kids learn together, or when kids are around while mums are at work and co-workers support the mums. This is my theme: play, live, work and learn together!
Mariko’s workshop is unique.
My Kiero workshop isn’t only about how to use Kiero. I’m going to shape my own ideas through Kiero, with my own experience and the beautiful culture of Japan. But mostly reduce the wastage is my main challange for bringing Kiero in New Zealand!
After the session, we had a chat and came up with an awesome idea: our own DIY Kiero workshop! Ladies with drills and old pallets. How does that sound?
For the future, for the children, for the planet.
I’m just an ordinary mum. I’m comfortable being the backstage person, like using a computer and making ads for other organisers’ events. But with Kiero, nobody is doing it outside Japan. So I stand up for it, because waste is a worldwide problem. We have to change our lives and our habits now. Nature won’t wait for us anymore.
So I do what I can do. It’s only a small thing, so I need people to get together and bring more different and awesome ideas that I wouldn’t come up with on my own.
I believe Kiero brings a lot of potential and benefits to Whanganui and New Zealand.
After Covid, I hadn’t seen my family in Japan for 7 years. When we were finally allowed to go there, I saw the beach full of plastic rubbish. I wrote a blog about it before, so please read this:
The next workshop is planned for the second week of November. If you sign up for my Kiero newsletter, you won’t miss it!
