If something isn’t good for nature, it can’t be good for us.
That simple belief has been quietly shaping my life since I met Permaculture.
I enrolled in Milkwood’s online course, learning from Kristen, Nick, and even from David Holmgren — one of the co-originators of Permaculture itself. Their teachings didn’t just educate me; they redirected my entire life. I suddenly understood something powerful
Returning to Japan — The Reminder of Where I Belong
Covid kept me away from my parents for years. In 2024, my family and I went back to Japan for a full year — finally returning to the land where my roots run deep.
Seeing my parents again filled my heart. But something else happened too.
As we travelled through rice fields, forested mountains, small towns, and ancient coastlines, my body remembered:
I belong to this land.
Yet alongside the beauty, we saw the painful reality — polluted beaches, losing trees from mountains, and abandoned homes left behind by people who couldn’t face the decline anymore.
If no one acts, these problems won’t simply fade.
They will shape the world our children inherit.
What can I do after I saw the reality of the big problem.
What can I do now?
Bringing a Japanese Invention to New Zealand
When we returned to New Zealand, I looked at the beautiful beach near our home — a place that reminds me of how Japan looked 40 years ago.
If we ignore environmental decline, this beauty will not last even New Zealand.
We must do something! But what we can do?
The answer arrived naturally: Kiero — a Japanese, soil-based, zero-smell, waste bin.
Kiero’s mean ‘Disappear’ Kitchen scraps disapper into the soil.
It shows us a miniature planet — a small, living ecosystem where microorganisms quietly turn waste into life. Kiero isn’t a magic box. It just the nature do its job.
I want you to experience that moment that I did — when your food scraps simply disappear and return as healthy soil, right before your eyes. And you will see even the tiny plastics.

This quite unique bin, Kiero, has a heap of potential to it. It’s not only a waste bin — it will connect people, build community, and share the knowledge of sustainable living.
And I am going to pass it down to the young generation.
